Hoan Kiem Lake (Vietnamese: Hồ Hoàn Kiếm, meaning “Lake of the Returned Sword” or “Lake of the Restored Sword”). It’s right in the middle of the city, and all around it is a park where crowds of people were out enjoying the day.

There were lots of cute old people out sitting on benches, playing boardgames, and having picnics.  When we walked by in the evening, the park was full of people doing synchronized exercises to loud techno music, kind of like a flash mob.  There was a teacher with a huge boombox who was directing everyone.
